Last week I made the wonderful discovery that Elise over at Simply Recipes is a very close neighbor of mine! We met at a local coffee shop and it was like meeting an old friend. That is her and I pictured above--Elise is on the right and I am on the left.
When we met each other, it was like two secret agents have a rendezvous with a valise full of Top Secret Stuff being exchanged. She brought me a bag full of apples from her garden: Granny Smiths and Pink Ladies. She also brought me a few serrano and jalapeno peppers, a slice of her magnificent apple-cranberry pie, and a jar of the most delicous apple butter I have ever tasted. For my part, I brought her a bag of persimmons and a serving of pumpkin persimmon parfait. Now this may be construed as a bribe in her Pumpkin Carve Up Cook Off contest, since I was probably the only one who could have a judge actually *taste* her entry. And it was a bribe, albeit a pathetic one since I really didn't follow the directions for the contest! All kdding aside, we had an extremely enjoyable coffee and gabfest, and I know I have a new friend. Incidentally, Elise has several very informative blogs which I highly recommend. You can find them at elise.com
As if that wasn't enough, I was visited by yet another blogger boon. Quite unexpectedly, Sweetnicks chose to recognize Rookie Cookery in her first weekly feature called "New Blogger On The Block Thursdays". Each Thursday she will profile a new blogger who is new (to her, not necessarily to the blogosphere in general) and thus remind all of us to continue to check out new blogs and expand our horizon. Thanks, Sweetnicks! I look forward to seeing what you have to offer.
What a great week!
