I was at the sink, preparing to rinse the whipped cream off the electric beater I had just used. Then I stopped. What was I doing? One of my sons was in his bedroom, doing homework. This was a perfectly good opportunity, almost an obligation since it involved whipped cream, to spoil him with a little unexpected act of kindness. So I added a little dollop of whipped cream to the beater and carried it to him.
As anyone knows, cleaning the whipped cream off a beater with one's mouth is worth the risk of a sprained tongue. Plus, it's tradition for crying out loud!
I love to spoil my family. I'm not talking about the kind of spoiling where the loved one in question becomes self centered, narcissistic and obnoxious. I mean the kind of spoiling where they say "Oh! You shouldn't have! You are too good to me!" and they feel, for the moment at least, that someone knows they are special and cares about them. And they become the kind of person who likes to spoil others too.
Tis the season of gift giving, and it need not cost a thing but a little thoughtfulness.
Isn't it the littlest things that can make us feel so special. I did the same for my chicken when she was home and her little eyes sparkled with appreciation and happiness.

Mmmm! Does it get any better than when Mom goes out of her way to let YOU lick the beater? I think not. After all, she could have licked it herself. What a pal!

This must be what separates the good moms from the great moms...
